In 1959, the City of Minnetonka received plans for its first park, Gro Tonka. Today, the city maintains five community parks and 44 neighborhood parks - and Gro Tonka is still with us.

Minnetonka Mills Park, featuring the Charles H. Burwell Historic Site, is the only site in Minnetonka on the National Register of Historic Places. The park is located along the banks of Minnehaha Creek and near the intersection of Minnetonka Boulevard and Plymouth Road. The historic site is five acres in size, and there is some additional acreage to the west of the historic site.

Charles H. Burwell House

The park includes an 1883 Italianate Victorian home built by Charles and Mary Burwell. It also includes a woodshed, a cottage, an icehouse, the former Minnetonka Mill office, and the ruins of the barn. The house is furnished with period pieces, most of which are owned by the Minnetonka Historical Society. The Burwell House features public tours from June to September on Tuesdays and Saturdays, and serves as the site of several special events. Visit the Burwell House page for complete details.

Other Amenities

The Minnetonka Historical Society operates their museum from the former Mill Office building.
