Council approves Drones as First Responders (DFR) program
City council approved a program that will leverage the technology of drones to achieve faster emergency response, expanded geographic coverage and enhanced officer safety. Funding is planned as part of the 2026 Capital Improvements Program and, subsequently, the police department’s operating budget. The initiative reduces long-term personnel-related expenditures, replaces costly staffing additions recommended in the original Public Safety Master Plan and will result in a projected savings of more than $5.3 million through 2035 when compared to the plan’s recommendations.
Council introduces an ordinance related to Interim Use Permits (IUP)
City council introduced an ordinance that would enable the city to consider reasonable temporary uses of property. The added flexibility may be beneficial in the coming year, as the final outcome of the zoning update project is yet to be determined. Council referred the ordinance to the planning commission for review.
