Council approves DWI Traffic Safety Officer Grant Agreement
City council approved a resolution authorizing the Minnetonka Police Department to enter into a $150,000 grant agreement with the State of Minnesota to fund a dedicated DWI and Traffic Safety Officer from October 1, 2025, through September 30, 2026. The position will focus on impaired driving enforcement and traffic safety initiatives, with the goal of reducing traffic-related injuries and fatalities. The grant fully covers the officer’s wages and benefits.
Council approves TZD Traffic Enforcement Grant Agreement
City council approved a resolution authorizing the Police Department to enter into a $144,900 Towards Zero Deaths (TZD) Traffic Enforcement Grant agreement with the Minnesota Department of Public Safety. Minnetonka will lead the regional partnership with Plymouth, Maple Grove and Wayzata, to increase patrols focused on speeding, distracted driving, impaired driving, and pedestrian safety. The grant fully funds officer overtime with no cost to the city.
Council introduces an ordinance to establish mayor and council salaries
City council introduced an ordinance to update the salaries of the mayor and council members. Following council input, updated salary proposals will be brought to council for approval in October with the changes set to take effect January 1, 2026.
Council approves special assessments for nuisance abatement projects
City council approved resolutions for special assessments related to nuisance abatements for 2024-2025 projects. The resolutions cover one-, three-, and fire-year payment terms. The assessments total approximately $6,563 with a 7.25% interest rate.
Council approves sale of bonds to finance Villas at Chasewood
City council approved a resolution to issue and sell $8,080,000 in bonds to finance the completion of the Villas at Chasewood Housing Improvement Area project. The bonds cover the cost of repairs and upgrades to the buildings, and the property owners will pay back the bonds over 21 years through housing improvement fees. The expected completion of the project is November 2025.
Council approves transfer of CDBG program income
City council approved a funding agreement to transfer existing Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program income to Hennepin County, as the city no longer administers its own CDBG programs. The $79,324.42 in funds was generated from repaid rehabilitation loans prior to 2018. The funds will now be used by the county to support housing rehabilitation projects within suburban Hennepin County, including Minnetonka.
Council adopts a resolution appointing election judges
City council approved a resolution appointing election judges and an absentee ballot board for the November 4, 2025 Municipal General Election. These judges will staff polling places, assist with absentee voting. Staff ensures the required party balance of judges is met in each polling place.
