Council approves Minnesota Historical and Cultural Heritage Grant agreement
City council approved a resolution authorizing the Administration Department to enter into a Minnesota Historical and Cultural Heritage Grant agreement with the Minnesota Historical Society. The grant is for $13,870 and will fund research to update City Hall’s history timeline exhibit which currently spans from the 1850s to 2005. The timeline will be expanded beyond 2005 and will incorporate diverse storytelling and multimedia elements.
Council establishes mayor and city council salaries
City council approved salary updates for mayor and city council members, effective January 1, 2026. Under the new ordinance, the mayor will receive an annual salary of $25,262.50 and council members will receive $19,350. The 7.5% adjustments remain below but aligned with the proposed 2026 levy and were factored into the 2026 proposed budget.
Council approves cybersecurity insurance coverage
City council approved supplemental cybersecurity insurance coverage with AIG for $49,986, to supplement the city’s existing $500,000 policy from the League of Minnesota Cities Insurance Trust. As cyber-attacks on local governments continue to rise, the added coverage helps protect city operations, financial assets, and sensitive data, while mitigating potential disruptions caused by threats like malware, phishing, and ransomware. The AIG policy provides $5 million in incident coverage, and is funded through the city’s Insurance Fund.
Council approves 2026 Employee Benefits, Union Adjustments and Insurance Renewals
City council approved a resolution adjusting non-union employee benefits and union wages and insurance. They also authorized the renewal of the city’s general liability and workers’ compensation insurance policies with existing coverage and deductibles.
