The City of Minnetonka is implementing and encouraging water conservation measures after the Mississippi-Headwaters and Missouri-Big Sioux watersheds entered the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources' Drought Warning Response Phase. The response phase calls on public water suppliers to limit water use to no more than 50 percent above January consumption levels to help protect drinking water supplies and natural resources during continued dry conditions.

While the response phase does not require a mandatory watering ban, it encourages communities and residents to reduce unnecessary water use, particularly outdoor irrigation. Minnetonka is promoting simple conservation practices such as watering lawns only when needed, repairing leaks and using water efficiently. Conserving water now helps protect groundwater, lakes, wetlands and streams while ensuring a reliable water supply if dry conditions persist.
