City council approves resolutions for Minnetonka Community Center Project
A renovation is proposed to provide upgrades to the 40-year-old building, including improvements to the dining areas and public meeting rooms. The project would also increase restroom capacity, upgrade the HVAC system and improve technology throughout the facility. The building hosts several community events and supports daily senior center activities. The last major renovation was completed 36 years ago. If approved, the building would temporarily close in early 2027 during construction.
City council approves resolution supporting Libbs Lake Bridge project
The city council approved a resolution supporting the Libbs Lake Bridge project. The existing bridge over the channel between Libbs Lake and Grays Bay was constructed in 1969 and is nearing the end of its service life. Project plans must be completed in advance for the city to be considered for state bridge grant funding.
City council approves resolution for Opus Trail Lighting Improvements Project
The city council approved a resolution supporting the Opus Trail Lighting Improvements Project. The city will replace existing lights and install new pedestrian trail lighting along the Opus trail system. The improvements will enhance pedestrian safety in an area expected to experience significant increases in pedestrian and bicycle traffic with the addition of new housing, the opening of the Green Line Extension and the potential development of a future park adjacent to the light rail station.
City council approves Minnesota Department of Public Safety Crisis Response Grant
The Police Department was awarded a $260,000 state grant to expand the city’s behavioral health response program. The two-year grant, effective Aug. 1, 2026, through June 30, 2028, will fund a full-time Behavioral Health Outreach Specialist position, along with training and necessary equipment. The position will support the department’s embedded social worker and enhance behavioral health services for both the Police and Fire Departments.
City council approves conditional use permits for accessory structures
The city council approved conditional use permits for accessory structures at 12600 Orchard Road, 4915 Highland Road and 16801 Excelsior Blvd.
City council opens public hearing for Glen Lake Wine & Spirits liquor license
XCIO LLC submitted an application for an off-sale intoxicating liquor license at 14448 Excelsior Blvd. The application is associated with a change in ownership from the previous license holder, Keegan Inc.
