Classic Car Show

Classic cars, live music and root beer floats. Join us for our sixth annual classic car show in the Ice Arena B parking lot. See a variety of shiny and impeccably kept makes and models. Grab a root beer float and enjoy the OutCats Band as they play a unique blend of rhythm and blues, rockabilly and classic rock. The fun is all free, but registration is required.

Our Memory Café is a welcoming place for people living with dementia and their immediate caregivers to socialize and share experiences. Online Selling

Take this crash course for selling items on Facebook Marketplace. Tech Expert Abbey Key covers online research, photography tips, filling out list templates, how to communicate with buyers and safe selling practices. The class will touch on Nextdoor and Craigslist. Students can use a laptop, cell phone or tablet; but must know how to operate the device and know passwords.

One-on-One Technology Help

Get free assistance from volunteers with the Senior Community Services Technology Program.Thanks to a Hennepin County grant, these 50-minute appointments at the community center are free for adults 60 and older. Appointments are on the 1st and 3rd Mondays and 2nd and 4th Wednesdays. Registration is required. Call the main office to schedule or go online at minnetonkamn.gov/register.

PRESENTATIONS

The Saving Claire Project

14 million older Americans fall every year. The cost in pain is impossible to overstate. The Saving Claire Project’s goal is to stop the falling epidemic by engaging and empowering people to talk, connect and begin the work to reduce falls. Join us for a screening of a short film, perform the 30 second chair rise test as a group to measure leg strength, followed by an expert discussion panel.

Balance Screenings

A more in-depth opportunity to measure balance. Participants will go through the Timed Up and Go (TUG) test and the fourstage balance test. Space is limited. Tests performed by physical therapists from Above and Beyond Senior Services.

Fiction Rooted in Minnesota’s Complex History

Award-winning Minnesota author and historian Colin Mustful explores how fiction can illuminate the complex and often misunderstood history of our state. Drawing from his research and novels—including Reclaiming Mni Sota, which examines the U.S.–Dakota War of 1862—Mustful will discuss how storytelling can humanize the past, foster empathy and encourage deeper civic understanding. Gain insight into the layered relationships between settlers, government officials and Indigenous communities. Leave with a richer understanding of how historical narratives are shaped, whose voices have been amplified or marginalized and why Minnesota’s past still matters today.

Martha Van De Vere Larkin: A Prolific, Yet Unknown Artist

Martha and John Larkin farmed the land that the Dayton Company bought for the development of Ridgedale Center, but Martha’s claim to fame was her art. City of Minnetonka Historical Society Board Member Barb Lindgren presents.

Tonka Treks

Walk round trip from the community center to various paths around the city campus. Paths paved, crushed limestone and/ or dirt. We go rain, shine or snow, walking at a pace to get our heart rate up, but still be able to hold a conversation. Registration opens Aug. 13 at 8 a.m.

Fall Along the Mississippi River

Enjoy the fall colors as you head south along the Mississippi River. Beef Burgundy lunch and dessert at Signature’s Restaurant in Winona. Spend an hour at Eckers Apple Farm in Trempealeau, WI to purchase apples and treats; followed by a wine tasting at Seven Hawks Vineyard in downtown Fountain City with some time for shopping.

Minnesota Military History Museum

Guided tour of the brand-new museum at Camp Ripley. Exhibits and stories of the Minnesotans who sacrificed so much. Foot Care: Provided by nurses from two organizations that visit the community center to trim toenails & keep feet healthy!

Program Locations: Meet at Minnetonka Senior Services at the Minnetonka Community Center, unless otherwise noted.

Program Cancelation: Withdrawing from a program must be done at least seven days before the start or by the originally advertised registration/cancelation deadline to receive a refund. Cancelations are subject to a 10% service fee.

Trip Cancelation: Refunds only granted prior to the registration deadline or in the event that a replacement is found. * Programs with low enrollment will be canceled.
