The Metropolitan Council plans to announce an official opening date for the METRO Green Line Extension on Sept. 26. The event will take place at 10 a.m. in St. Louis Park at the Louisiana Avenue Station just north of Park Nicollet Methodist Hospital. Light rail service along the 14 mile line is expected to begin in 2027.

Construction is over 90% complete across all 16 new stations connecting Minneapolis, St. Louis Park, Hopkins, Minnetonka, and Eden Prairie. Minnetonka will be served by both the Opus and Shady Oak stations. Test trains are actively running along sections of the corridor as part of pre-revenue safety and signal checks. Metro Transit will take over the line yet this year and begin its own tests.

Metro Transit is also updating the Network Now framework to provide more information on connecting bus service to the Green Line. It will host community meetings in the area to detail proposed plans and receive feedback.
