The City of Minnetonka has adopted ordinances to regulate parking and outside vehicle storage. General city parking regulations are listed below. Visit the city code and charter (section 930.030) to view the complete ordinances.

• There is no parking on any city street from 2-6 a.m.
• Vehicles may not be parked on the street for more than six hours.
• No more than four vehicles may be parked or stored outside a home. All vehicles must be owned by the residents or property owners (excluding occasional guests). Ordinance 845.020 (3)
• Vehicles must be parked on a paved or dirt surface. Ordinance 845.020 (3)
• Vehicles with a G-T weight classification may not park on any property or street for more than two hours. This excludes vehicles parked inside a garage. Ordinance 845.020 (3)
• Vehicles may not be parked in a manner that interferes with snow removal from the street. Ordinance 845.025 (2)

Vehicles parked in violation of any of these ordinances may be tagged and/or towed.

Some Minnetonka streets prohibit street parking or restrict parking during certain hours. Residents may request temporary parking permission for special events or overnight street parking under special circumstances.

To request temporary parking permission, call the police department at 952-939-8500. The department tracks all requests in the event a complaint is made.

Temporary “no parking” signs are available outside the police department front entrance for Minnetonka residents to use when hosting events, including garage sales and graduation open houses. Instructions are included with each bundle. Please return the signs following your event.

The Minnetonka Police Department offers free child safety seat inspections. Call 952-939-8576 to schedule an appointment.

Follow all state laws and these guidelines to ensure child passenger safety.

• All children under age 8 must ride in a federally approved car seat or booster seat, unless the child is 4’9” or taller.
• All infants and toddlers should ride in rear-facing seats as long as possible.

When two or more inches of snow have accumulated, citywide snowplowing operations typically begin between 2 – 4 a.m. Exact timing depends on the expected start and end of the storm and the intensity of snowfall.
