Minnetonka does not have a sign regulation specific to political campaign signs. They are considered “temporary non-commercial signs” by city ordinance.

Temporary non-commercial signs, including campaign signs, are allowed on private property, but must:

  • Be located at least five feet from the edge of the street;
  • Not obstruct driver visibility at intersections;
  • Not exceed six feet in height;
  • Not be attached to trees, utility poles, fences or placed on the roof of any structure; and
  • Receive approval from the property owner.

There is no limit on the number or size of temporary non-commercial signs and they can be displayed year-round.

Campaign signs may not be in or within 100 feet of the polling place building. If the polling place is on public property, no one can campaign anywhere on the property, even beyond 100 feet. However, the prohibition of signs and campaign materials within 100 feet does not apply to adjacent private property.

Email  the Planning Division with specific questions or complaints regarding campaign signs. City staff will respond to complaints weekly, with priority given to signs that present a public safety hazard.
