The goal of Minnetonka’s park restoration program is to restore native plant habitats in the city’s woodlands, prairies and wetlands. With the help of contractors, volunteers and city crews, we work to control non-native invasive species and protect native plants, especially those with high value to pollinators, birds and wildlife. We use practices that help prevent erosion, minimize herbicide and other chemical use, build healthier soil and improve water quality.

Invasive plants reduce diversity and resilience in natural areas and home landscapes.

We want you to be successful in getting rid of this widespread invasive plant. You'll need a good plan and a commitment to long-term maintenance. Effective buckthorn control can lead to:

  • A tidier, lovelier home landscape
  • A more complex food web that supports diverse plants and animals
  • Healthier soils that absorb and hold more water
  • Less erosion from slopes into water bodies
  • And much more!
