Water resources are extremely valuable to the environment and people, but good water quality requires a lot of regulation and collaboration across agencies and organizations.

Four separate watershed districts work with the City to govern and protect Minnetonka's water resources.

Resource protection

One vital way Minnetonka protects our water resources is by managing stormwater runoff. The municipal separate storm sewer system (MS4) permit guides our efforts to reduce the amount of sediment and other pollutants entering state waters from stormwater systems.

What you can do

Water quality is a critical factor in a healthy ecosystem. This includes our lakes and wetlands.

Here are ways you can help protect Minnetonka's water resources:

Manage stormwater runoff
Go easy on de-icing salt in winter
Pick up after your dog
Plant a rain garden
Compost at home
Reduce your outdoor water use
Install water efficient fixtures (and apply for a rebate)
