Each team competes in eight regular season games over six weeks, with two nights of double-headers. Following the regular season, all teams move into a one-night playoff round, with a minimum of the top four teams playing in a playoff tournament to determine the league champion and all other teams playing a single game against their closest opponent in the standings. League games are scheduled on Thursday evenings with games beginning as early as 6 p.m. and as late as 9 p.m. Teams play six a side. Games are held at Valley Park and Harley-Hopkins Park in Hopkins.

Game Schedules
League schedules will be emailed to team managers roughly two weeks prior to the start of the season.
Weather
In the event of a weather related cancellation the program manager will attempt to make the call prior to play starting. Team managers will be emailed as soon as a cancellation is determined. Weather updates can also be accessed via our weather hotline (952-939-8355). Every attempt will be made to reschedule games.
Forfeits
Forfeits are highly frowned upon. If your team is considering forfeiting, please consider showing up to scrimmage with fewer players or extending the invite to your larger social network. If your team needs to forfeit, please inform the program manager AND the other team's manager ASAP (preferably days prior). There is no guarantee that last minute forfeits will be communicated by the program manager.
Equipment
The following equipment is required:
- Broom - The broom shall consist of a wooden or aluminum handle with a maximum circumference of 4” that is commercially produced for broomball and recognized by the MRPA/USBA. Homemade or dangerous brooms will not be allowed. Any amount of tape will be allowed, provided its use is intended for safety or cohesiveness. All brooms must have a taped knob on the end. No broom may weigh more than 32 ounces or exceed 53” in length.
- Teams must supply a good, playable broomball for each game. A ball will be provided to each team by the game official at your first game.
- Players on the ice must wear a strapped on commercially produced helmet. While the preference is for players to wear hockey helmets, you may also wear bike helmets or motorcycle helmets.
Eligibility Requirements
- Participants must be at least 18 years old and out of high school to compete in the broomball league.
- Players who are currently suspended from participating in other sports communities are ineligible to compete in Hopkins-Minnetonka leagues.
- The participation of an un-rostered player in any league game will result in forfeiting that game to the opposing team. The Program Manager shall determine whether other games the player participated in shall be forfeited also.
- Opposing managers, as well as Recreation Services, may initiate checks on eligibility. Showing proof of a player’s identity by photo id may be required at game time.
- Players cannot play on more than one team participating in the league.
