Work on Bay Street, Beechwood Avenue, Grays Bay Boulevard and McKenzie Point will continue this week and next.

Construction activities include

Residents can expect the following activities:

• Topsoil placement and grading in boulevards
• Temporary asphalt driveway removal
• New asphalt driveway paving

The city’s contractor will resume work on the Groveland-Bay Improvements Project starting on Monday, May 2.

Construction will occur on Bay Street, Abel Lane, Grays Bay Blvd, Beechwood Ave, and McKenzie Point Rd. Work to be completed over the next few weeks includes driveways, black dirt and turf restoration and final lift of asphalt pavement.

Groveland Bay Improvements Project Update 10/29: Schedule is weather dependent and subject to change.

McKenzie Point

Week of Oct. 25: Water main and stormwater force main installation.

Week of Nov. 1: Water service replacement and installment. Road subcutting is expected to begin. Access will be limited or eliminated.

Week of Nov. 8: Road subcut to be finished and curb and gutter installation will begin. Access will be limited or eliminated. Driveway access will be lost for McKenzie Point residents to allow curb and gutter to cure.

Week of Nov. 15: Paving base layer of road. This is expected to take 1-2 days and access will be limited.

 

Beechwood Avenue

Week of Oct. 25: Water service replacement. Storm sewer will begin Friday. Access will be limited.

Week of Nov. 1: Complete storm sewer and begin road subcut.

Week of Nov. 8: Curb and gutter installation. Driveway access will be lost to let the curb and gutter cure.

Week of Nov. 15: Paving base layer of road. This is expected to take 1-2 days and access will be limited.

 

Groveland School Road, Bay Lane, Bay Circle

Week of Oct. 25: Utility structures raised to final grade.

Week of Nov. 1: Paving final layer of pavement scheduled for Nov. 1st.

Week of Nov. 8: Curb and gutter installation scheduled for the 8th. Driveway access will be lost to allow the curb and gutter to cure.

  • Roadway grading begins Saturday and will continue into next week.

• The roadway is prepped for curb and gutter installation.

Stage 4:

• Pavement removal is complete.
• Water main installation begins next week.

• Roadway pavement removal will then take place on July 24.

• Resident mailboxes have been removed and given to homeowners to store for the duration of the project. Temporary mailboxes have been installed at each street.
• Tree removal is complete, with stump grinding to follow.
• New hydrant and water main installation has started and will continue for several weeks.
• A temporary water main will be installed next week to supply residents with water while the underground main is replaced.
• Street milling and driveway end removal will be completed this Monday.

The city's tree contractor will be in the project area (view map) beginning the week of March 22, 2021 to perform tree maintenance and right-of-way pruning to prepare for project construction.

The Groveland-Bay Improvements Project is on the Minnetonka City Council’s Monday, Jan. 25, 2021 agenda. The council will be asked to accept plans and specification and authorize the city to seek construction bids.

Request optional features on your property by Jan. 8

Homeowners in the project area have the option to add enhanced water quality features to their property, such as a rain garden or native plantings. Examples are pictured in this letter sent to residents.

These features would be installed as part of the project at no cost to homeowners. When the project is complete, they will be each homeowner's to own and maintain going forward.
